I love this place. The food is great and the tortillas are thick and handmade fresh. The hours are short but on Saturday and Sundays there is usually a line to be seated. Don't worry I've never waited more than 5 minutes.
They have an awesome patio and nice selection of beers as well. I prefer the patio but no matter where I sit I am never disappointed. The service is impeccable and all the staff smile and are willing to help out.
I have never used the bathroom here so I can't comment on that but there is a cool little store where you can get local goodies and I've seen neat football/sports memorabilia while glancing in as I pass by.
I always get an order of chili beans to go and use them at home to spice up my other foods for the next week. It's local and mom and pop. Check it out anyway you won't be disappointed. -

Great place for New Mexico chili. Service is great and the atmosphere is happening. You can come here and have a great meal.
So there is a picture of Obama visiting the establishment and so you can see the history.
The chili is not hot but it is tasty so you can enjoy it. -

Barelas is deffinetly A best of Albuquerque NM southwest style.. food is Awsome and Wait staff is great!! .. Only problem is it is kinda Hard to enjoy your food when it is so HOT and stuffy in the dining erea 84 degrees to be exact Barelas Cafe has been around for many years you would think by this point they would have upgraded A/C and good ventilation.. The 2 fans in the corner just don't cut it crack a window atleast..I feel bad for these Waitresses and bussers who have to bust there Butt run back and fourth trying there there best to keep Customers comfortable and Taken care of! All while working in those Hot And uncomfortable Conditions..Barelas Cafe you should be ashamed of yourself..
To the Owner or Mgnmt you have lost a.customer not because of the food or great Wait staff.. "But" being the very successful business that you are.. Barelas cafe upper mgmnt should be more Considerate towards your customers and employees for their Health and well being..No Customers no Business.. Come on Barelas Cafe step it up Already A customer or employee is gonna get sick of heat stroke "not good" Get some decent cooling going on its 2019

This place is amazing , opened in 1978 and was saved from the wrecking ball by historic preservationists. Having served President Clinton in the past the staff makes everyone feel at home.
I had the combo for breakfast with the green Chile and the thick handmade flour tortillas. The food was old school New Mexico style as I am now ready for a siesta. Great place to break bread with family and friends. I will be back ! -

Went here to meet a friend for lunch while we were in town for a visit. I let him talk me out of El Modelo to go here. I had the enchiladas which were fine.. overall pretty standard New Mexican fare. I wasn't blown away but it wasn't bad by any means. Very good friendly service.
